Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) is a condition in which a person with obesity has difficulty breathing and does not get enough oxygen during sleep. This is caused by the accumulation of excess fat around the chest and abdomen, which restricts breathing and causes the person to take shallow breaths. OHS is a serious condition that can lead to heart and lung problems, and requires prompt treatment.
