Cataplexy is a sudden loss of muscle tone, typically triggered by strong emotions such as laughter, anger, or surprise. Cataplexy is most commonly associated with narcolepsy, a sleep disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden muscle weakness. Cataplexy can range from mild muscle weakness to complete collapse, and can last from a few seconds to several minutes.
