Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) Excessive daytime sleepiness (eds) is a term used to describe a persistent and overwhelming sense of fatigue and drowsiness during waking hours, regardless of adequate or even excessive nighttime sleep. Eds can result from a variety of underlying sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy, and can interfere with daily activities and quality of life.
