Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS) The epworth sleepiness scale (ess) is a self-administered questionnaire used to assess an individual’s level of daytime sleepiness. The ess is a commonly used tool in sleep medicine, and scores on the ess can be used to diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and restless leg syndrome.
