AHI stands for apnea-hypopnea index, a measure found in sleep studies that indicates whether the sleep study meets the criteria for sleep apnea. An AHI of below 5 is considered acceptable for adults, and an AHI of between 5-14.9 is considered mild sleep apnea, 15-29.9 and anything over 30 is considered severe sleep apnea. It is a measurement of the overall severity of sleep apnea. AHI is an average of the combined episodes of apnea and hypopnea that occur per hour of sleep.
